Ragged Rain Life

Duncan Browne

A taste of wine
and a bedroom full of ashes
and a swell of rain
across the morning

I turned to the child
of falling light
And I knew that I lay
entangled in her ragged life

Hiding her wild eyes
beneath her long lashes
She said "I see you still
fall in love with faces"

And I laughed at
the child of falling light
Though I knew
that she was right
I was a stranger
in her ragged life

I am never safe
from her sad
way of laughing
I tried to move
but my head
was full of memories

And the rain
was still dancing
and the wind
swept the darkness in
As I turned away
from her ragged life
