Woman's Worth

Nokulunga Dladla

With these poems and poetry
I intend telling the stories untold
Not just fables of old women but to reveal the
concealed truth about the reality, the suffering
and the pain this woman endures day by day.

This woman has lost her worth
Her womaness has been degraded
Her soul is contolled by the hauling of the winds
She can play marimba no more, she can smile no more,
she can dance no more, she can cry no more.
Izinyembezi sezomile, hay ngoba sekungcono but she is dehydrated
For cried until she could cry no more.

Poets of this generation
Thathani iphepha nosiba and write.
Write so her name will be remembered for generations to come
Njengeqhawe elinamandla, iqhawe elingahlehli
Elingadubi, elingadangali, elingadikibali.
Holding on so her kids will have a brighter future,
Eyishay' indiva inhlungu ukuze efihle ihlazo
Lomyeni wakho ogijima ukuze Kuse nabesimame abazidelile.

Poets of this generation
Assure her that she is beautiful,
That she is loved,
That she is appreciated,
That she is complete,
That she is worth it!
For this woman has lost her worth!
