Civil War

Oh I fought in the war
Between the blue and gray
When the war it was over
I knew I could not stay

The cause was worth the fighting
But not the death and dying
So when the fighting it was over
And the bullets stopped a flying

I packed up all I had
And started heading west
I ended up
In Lerado, Texas

I was just a kid of eighteen
I was far away from home
Running from that war
I was all alone

Oh I found peace and quiet
Next to the Rio Grand
In the town of Lerado
I learned to love the land

Time drifted by
But the war haunted me
I wish I could be free
Of the wars memories

Oh one day I was offered
A job as a cowboy
Out on the prairie
I life I could enjoy

Oh I love the blue sky
And I love the chaparral
Far from the war
And the gates to hell

Working under blue sky
On the prairie
Herding cows to market
That’s the life for me.
