Almost Home

Joe Scruggs

I woke up early this morning. Been sitting in the car all day. Coming home from vacation, and no ones got much to say. Then I see the lights of our city and we slow down for the speed zone. And I start to smile ‘cause in just a short while, we’ll be home. Yes we’re almost home. Yes we’re almost home. I’m gonna lay my head tonight in my own bed ‘cause we’re almost home. My little puppy doggie will probably be wagging his tail. And there’ll be a stack of newspapers and probably a sack of mail. As we pass the corner grocery store, the neighborhood savings and loan, I’ve got a big smile ‘cause in just a short while, we’ll be home. And we’re almost home. Yes we’re almost home. I’m gonna lay my head tonight in my own bed ‘cause we’re almost home. All our friends come running when they see that we are home. Some look just the same to me, but some look like they’ve grown. And I tell them of my adventures as we talk in sticks and stones. Then it’s off to bed ‘cause I’m a sleepy head; so good to be home. And it’s good to be home. Yes it’s good to be home. I’m gonna lay my head tonight in my own bed. Yes we’re almost home. Almost home.
