Midnight Rodeo

Walt Gabbard

Me and my baby had the truck loaded down.
I just hit the outskirts of town
When that sheriff’s blue lights filled up my mirrors, my vision wasn’t all that clear.
So I kicked it down a gear and I hit a back road, hid in the woods - watched him drive by real slow.
Couldn’t be late for the show had to catch that midnight rodeo, where the girl showed so much skin.
It’s damned near the eighth that we’ve sinned.
That firelight sets the mood of the night if it’s wrong man I don’t wanna be right.
Then she gives me that look I know it’s time to go, gonna end this night with a midnight rodeo.
Bonfire sparklin’ in my ladies eyes, that Martin was strummin’ those lullabies.
She danced through the fast and singed through the slow the scene was set for that midnight rodeo.
So I took her by the hand and we headed for my old boat I can’t believe that the damn thing still floats, started with a choke and a little bit of smoke now it’s time for that midnight rodeo.
Where the girl shows so much skin, it’s damned near the eighth that we’ve sinned. That firelight sets the mood of the night, if it’s wrong man I don’t wanna be right.
Then she gives me that look and I know it’s time to go, gonna end this night with a midnight rodeo.
I turned that boat up the river. Whispered in her ear about the love I could give her. She said, ”boy there’s something about me you need to know this ain’t my first - this ain’t my first midnight rodeo.”
Well the girl showed so much skin, it’s damned near the eighth that we’ve sinned.
That firelight sets the mood of the night if its wrong man I don’t wanna be right , I don’t wanna be right.
Then she gives me that look I know it’s time to go, I’m gonna end this night with a midnight rodeo.
