Cousin Russell

Wildwood Valley Boys

I had a cousin Russell who lived just down the road

He always had the smell of chimney smoke

We hunted squirrel together and we rode the bus to school

In '56 we was 15 years old

When the family got too big, Russell moved out in the shed

He was really strong once he'd become a man

I never will forget all the good times that we had

back when Russell lived out in the shed

**Chorus**

He'd play the Stella guitar as he sat upon the bed

and me the tater bug the mandolin

We'd listen to the Opry on his daddy's crystal set

back when Russell lived out in the shed

One night me and Jason Hope showed up at the shed

We had a jug of grandpa's home made wine

Flatt  and Scruggs on the Opry  we had to dance a jig

I don't believe I've had a better time

Now the years wave come and gone since I was a teen

But it feels good to look back now and then

Times were good and times were hard I wouldn't change a thing

back when Russell lived out in the shed

**Chorus**

He'd play the Stella guitar as he sat upon the bed

and me the tater bug the mandolin

We'd listen to the Opry on his daddy's crystal set

back when Russell lived out in the shed

Break

**Chorus**
