The Little Things

Donna Beasley

It’s shopping together in the grocery store
Buying stuff we didn't need
It’s firing up the backyard grill
Cooking enough burgers to feed the whole neighborhood

It’s a day spent working on your old car
It was always leaking oil
And finding a used one for your birthday
Sneaking around trying not to spoil the big surprise

It’s a little house with a little fence
A little yard I used to mow
A little dog I used to walk
Down by a little church where we used to go
A little boy who tries to act like a man
A little girl who tries like me to understand all of this
Yeah, it’s the little things I miss

It’s the catch I didn't play
The I love you's I didn't say
The stories I didn't read
The advice I didn't heed,
It’s the time I didn't take
The love I didn't make
When I had the chance

And a little house with a little fence
A little yard I used to mow
A little dog I used to walk
Down by a little church where we used to go
A little boy who tries to act like a man
A little girl who tries like me to understand all of this
Yeah, it’s the little things I miss

Yeah, it’s the little things I miss
Yeah, it’s the little things
Aw, the little things
It sure is the little things I miss
