We read in the bible,
God’s holy pages,
the story of mercy
passed through the ages.
God’s law demanded again & again
without shedding blood,
no remission of sin.
There must come a lamb,
an atonement be made.
“It is finished” at Calvary,
the last debt was paid.
I’m saved, forgiven.
I’ve been born again,
washed in the blood
of the crucified lamb.
Set free from sin’s chains,
my life has changed.
I stand no longer condemned.
You may wonder why
tears fill my eyes
when I see redemption’s cost.
I’ll never get over
what God put under
the blood of an old rugged cross.
I remember the time
of conviction’s strong power.
The preacher was preaching,
“This is the hour.”
bearing the burdens,
the weight of my sin,
trying to change me
again & again.
He said, “Behold the lamb:
the sacrifice made.
It’s under the blood.
The debt has been paid.”
