About popular votes versus the electoral college
Voting is your sacred right, but think of it as a privilege

Electoral votes determine the president
Of these you need to get, more than 50 percent
So it’s not about whether you have more votes from the public
But more electoral votes, puts you in charge of the republic
There are millions of popular votes, and that’s great
But electoral votes? Only five hundred thirty eight
538 Electors, at this rate, let’s calculate
269 votes each would lead to a stalemate
So 270’s what you need to win; in that there’s no debate
But to get a single one of these you need to win a state
So the state is where the popular votes come in hand
If you get the most votes, the results are quite grand
51% or 100, there is no difference
All that counts is which candidate is that state’s preference
Winner gets all electors whether the margin’s big or small
It’s all the same call, it’s winner take all X 2

How many electoral votes does each state get?
It’s based on population so there’s no need to fret
Many have as low as 3, and california 55
Is there an easy way to see how that number is derived?
Add the reps and the senators, and you won’t go wrong
Oh, and all States have 2 senators, but that’s a different song
435 reps, 100 senators, and 3 more from DC
Gets us the 5-3-8 electoral votes to the T
But what if there’s a tie? If no one wins or loses?
Well then neither you nor I, but the House of Reps Chooses
I hope you now can see how to come to this conclusion
And the electoral college is less of a confusion
