All Through The Night Lyrics

The day is my enemy
The night my friend
For I'm always so alone
Till the day draws to an endBut when the sun goes down
And the moon comes through
To the monotone of the evening's drone
I'm all alone, with youAll through the night, I delight in your love
All through the night, you're so close to me
All through the night, from a height far above
You and your love brings me ecstasyWhen dawn comes to waken me
You're never there at all
I know you've forsaken me
Till the shadows fallBut then once again
I can dream
I've the right to be close to you
All through the night

Ella Jane Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 in Newport News, VA – June 15, 1996), also known as Lady Ella (the First Lady of Song), was one of the most influential jazz singers of the 20th Century, the winner of thirteen Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Art presented by President Ronald Reagan and the Presidential Medal of Freedom presented by President George H. W. Bush. Gifted with a three-octave vocal range, she was noted for her purity of tone, near faultless phrasing and intonation, and a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing.
