The Carmina Slovenica choir holds a central position on the Slovenian and international music scene and has performed on concert stages worldwide – from the Tokyo Metropolitan Art centre to Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, from the San Francisco Symphony Hall, the Teresa Carreño Theatre in Caracas the Hong Kong Cultural Centre or Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.
As one of the highly distinguished musical experts wrote, “the Slovenian choir's place is on the world's stages between Berlin and San Francisco”.
Carmina Slovenica has been invited to music events of the highest esteem such as World Music Days (organized by ISCM), Eastern Festival in Moskow (artistic director Valery Gergiev), Dresden Musik Festspiele (artistic director Hermut Haenechen), European Symposium for Choral Muisc (IFCM), Polypholiya, America Cantata, Choir Olympics, Europa Cantat etc…
It is one of the foremost avantgarde vocal ensembles, creating contemporary music projects. With “Choregie – vocal theatre” Carmina Slovenica introduces new concepts which incorporates music, drama, movement and other stage elements. Such latest stage productions were: CS Light, Scivias, Vampirabile, O Successors, Slovenian sounds, Adiemus, From Time Immemorial – award winning productions performed on many international festivals and broadcasted by EBU and Eurovison.
The aim of the choir and its leader Karmina Šilec to continually search out new music and new fields of work has resulted in a wide repertoire today: from early music, ethnical vocal music to the latest avant-garde.
Concert tours in almost all the countries of Europe, the USA, Canada, Africa, Central and South America, Japan and China, many highest awards at international choral competitions, participation in many international projects, recordings made for many radio and television stations, 9 CDs produced, excellent reviews of the choir's performances by the musical experts and critics … all of these achievements speak for themselves and confirm the choir's highest reputation.
