The music of Avi Ghosh is ambitious to say the least, creating a medium that explores all the varied complexities of the emotional spectrum while scrutinizing upon the facets that has allowed for personal evolution. The band’s introspective body of work channels hitting rock bottom through their crushing electronics, powerful guitars, and pounding drums that guarantee to beat right through your chest. Avi Ghosh in many ways possesses chameleon-esque sonic qualities, creating a discernible sound that refuses to be pigeonholed by the confines of any one musical genre. While at times the band summons forth their edgy guitar-driven tendencies with songs like "Better Off Alone" and “The Last Song,” tracks like "This Means Goodbye" or the upcoming "Even If It Hurts" sound more like the maniacal offspring of Trent Reznor fucking Ace Of Base. Every song, regardless of tone or dynamic, is crafted with just the right amount of pop sensibility to satiate even the most saccharine at heart while maintaining its sense of trademark originality Avi’s fans have grown to adhere to. Lyrically, Avi keeps no secrets- drawing on his own sincere, personal life experience to relate his concept art to the masses. The music will undoubtedly serve as a soundtrack for the best and worst of times; attempting to hopefully leave you with a resolution out.
In 2002, Avi gave birth to his first musical offering at the ripe age of sixteen- the fittingly titled dEFY with lofty ambitions of creating musical rebellion within his generation while simultaneously grabbing the attention of all walks of life. After releasing three full-length records, an EP, and a remix effort- dEFY had been put on an indefinite state of dormancy while Avi continued to release music under the moniker of his own name. When asked in a recent spotlight interview with German magazine Autona why his music was no longer being released under such an established name; Avi responded, "dEFY had gone on to represent something that just wasn’t me anymore. In no way is dEFY over, because I feel like I have a solid grasp in what that name represents; however, the entire body of work as a whole just didn’t seem to provide a truthful and complete snapshot of the way I’ve been feeling currently. The idea of dEFY has evolved greatly and I’m looking forward to unleashing its predecessor which will ultimately be a musical paradigm shift both sonically and emotionally."
After relocating to Austin, Texas in March of 2009 and enlisting the help of Matt Gruber (guitar) and Nick Munos (drums) the transition from dEFY to Avi Ghosh is finally complete. Without any tour support or consistent promotion, the band has nearly reached 18 million plays on MySpace and continues to expand their devoted fanbase through word of mouth and viral marketing. With such a strong buzz surrounding the band's new line-up and newest full-length release “All That’s Left Of Us,” the men of Avi Ghosh are armed with a newfound sense of urgency to tour continually and produce new music at an unforgiving pace.
The band has been very hard at work putting together a brand new, immersive live experience that promises to revolutionize the way a traditional rock band performs. The stage production guarantees to impress through a complimenting light show that should come with its own seizure warning, as well as a film projection reel that accents the various musical themes attacked during the band's high energy, frenetic set. A recent partnering with futuristic music technology firm Open Labs has given the band a fresh, new outlook on how to recreate their wall of sound live and allowed them to think outside the box for their upcoming tours. Never before has the band taken such a leap into uncharted waters in hopes of doing something memorable, unique, and engaging-burying everything they’ve known in the past to build something completely unexpected from the ground up. Already, the band’s well organized silent campaigning and secret gatherings throughout Austin have caught the attention of locals, helping the band plant the seed for what is to come.
