At My Window Lyrics

At my window
Watchin' the sun go
Hopin' the stars know
It's time to shineDaydreams
Aloft on dark wings
Soft as the sun streams
At days declineLivin' is sighin'
Dyin' says nothing at all
Babe and I lyin' here
Watchin' the evenin' fallTime flows
Through brave beginnings
And she leaves her endings
Beneath our feetWalk lightly
Upon their faces
Leave gentle traces
Upon their sleepLivin' is dancin'
Dyin's doin' nothin' at all
Babe and I lyin' here

Watchin' the evening fallThree dimes
Hard luck and good times
Bad rhymes and fine lines
Not much to sayFeel fine
Feel low and lazy
Feel gray and hazy
Feel far awayLivin' ain't lyin'
Dyin' ain't flyin' so high
Babe and I wonderin'
Watchin' the day go by

Townes Van Zandt (John Townes Van Zandt, born at Fort Worth, Texas, March 7, 1944 and died at Smyrna, Tennessee, January 1, 1997). He was a country and folk singer and poet. While alive, Van Zandt was labelled as a cult musician. Though he had a small and devoted fanbase, he never had a successful album or single, and even had difficulty keeping his recordings in print. Many of his songs, including "If I Needed You," "To Live Is To Fly," and "No Place to Fall" are considered standards of their genre. AllMusic has called him "one of the greatest country and folk artists of his generation."
