Ave Maria - Jim Nabors

Known best for his role as Gomer Pile, USMC (on this show as well as the Andy Griffith Show), Jim Nabors powerful voice continues to surprise listeners.

Born James Thurston Nabors, 12 June, 1930, in Sylacauga, AL, it is said that Nabors began singing in church services as a small child. He was discovered by Griffith while singing in a night club in California. While better known as an actor by many, most of his work was singing. His biggest hits came during the 60s and 70s, singing Sinatra style standards and gospel music.

Jim Nabors received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991, and his promotion, as Gomer Pyle, to Lance Corporal, in 2001.

On 25 September 2008, Nabors will appear at the Convention for the Association for Retired Agents of the FBI, at Hilton Hawaiian Village, where he will sing the "National Anthem".
