Banks of the Neebine Lyrics
Two lonely graves beside each other
One is dad and one is mother
They left this world and all its misery
Two lonely graves in distant water
By the banks of the Neebine water
Do you wonder why I’m feeling so lonely
As I kneel in silent prayer
They don’t know that I am here
And my heart it aches through all the wrong I’ve done
Two lonely graves without a headstone
On the Neebine banks they’re all alone, no gidgee trees to stop the burning sun
The palent fence is fallen down
And is lying scattered on the ground
The corner posts are almost rotted through
The old gate latch is all rusty
And sheet have pads around them beaten
And in the dust I see the tracks of some wild old roo
The old homesteads not too far away
It’s gone back to dust, was built of clay
And I see them in the garden, arm in arm
Dad speaks to mum, mum smiles at dad
In my eyes there’s mist, I guess my visions bad
Yet within it, there’s a peaceful, heavenly calm
Two lonely graves that make me feel sad
Which one’s you Mumma which one’s dad
You’re not forgotten by your only wayward son
