Basin Street Blues Lyrics

Won't you come along with me
To the Mississippi
We'll take a boat to the land of dreams
Steam down the river, down to New OrleansThe band's there to meet us
Old friends there to greet us
Where all the proud and elite folks meet
Heaven on earth, they call it Basin StreetBasin Street is the street
Where the best folks always meet
In New Orleans, land of dreams
You'll never know how nice it seems,
Or just how much it really meansGlad to be, oh yes-sirree
Where welcome's free and dear to me
Where I can lose, lose my Basin Street Blues

The Peddlers formed in Manchester, UK in 1964 as a trio of TREVOR Morais (born in Liverpool, 10 October 1944), Tab Martin (born in Newcastle upon Tyne on 24 December 1944) and Roy Phillips (born in Parkstone, Dorset on 5 May 1943). Morais, the drummer, had previously played with Faron's Flamingoes and Rory Storm and the Hurricanes (who had struggled to replace Ringo Starr after he had left to join The Beatles). Martin, the bassist, and Phillips, on vocals and keyboards, had both been in The Saints and The Tornados; Phillips had also been with The Soundtracks.
