Better Than Anything Lyrics

Better than cream cheese and bagels...
Better than honey on bread...
Better than champagne and pretzels...
Better than breakfast in bed...
Better than chile rellenos...
Better than chocolate eclairs...
Better than hot house tomatoes...
Better than fresh Bartlett pears...
Better than dining ala carte -
Or sampling gastronomic art...
Better than anything except -
Being in love!
Better than making a million...
Better than being a king...
Better than oil wells and gold mines...
Better than pastures of green...
Better than finding a horse shoe...

Better than losing your head...
Better than anything ever thought of...
Better than anything ever said...
Better than singing right out loud
Or being spotted in a crowd...
Better than anything except -
Being in love!
It's better than elephants - elephants dancing...
It's better than clowns on parade...
Better than peanuts and popcorn...
Better than pink lemonade...
Better than rides on the midway...
Better than seals blowing horns...
Better than men shot from cannons...
Better than fresh ears of corn...
Better than balancing on the wire -
Or watching tigers jump through fire...
Better than anything except -
Being in love!
Better than driving around the park -
or watching fireflies after dark...
Better than anything except -
Being in love!

Born in the decidedly non-bustling Arkansas town of Cherry Hill and raised in Texas, Bob Dorough played clarinet in his high school band and earned a BA in Music from what is now North Texas University. Before that, three years with a Special Services Army Band had given him loads of valuable experience in both playing and arranging.

In 1949, Bob made a bee-line for New York, where he took classes at Columbia University, immersed himself in the city’s rapidly evolving jazz scene and took whatever musical jobs he could land.
