Black Betty and the Moon Lyrics

My love, my love, you're the sting of the scorpion
Consider, now, the angels, a little lower than you
And they twist and they turn, and they hold their breath 'til it's blue
And they can't turn away like I can, when you're lookin' like you doLooky Black Betty, what they're tying to you
You did the very thing, baby, that I asked you not to do
And now you got yourself caught in the silk spiderweb
I hope the money fills the holes, can see the roof is caving inMy heart, my heart, you're the moon and her shining light
Darkness and void of form, like you were keeping me alive
And I've been dreaming of poisonings from the venom of my enemies
Clever as the viper, dear, but gentle as a stampede of stonesLooky Black Betty, what they're tying to you
You did the very thing, baby, that I asked you not to do
Now you got yourself caught in the silk spiderweb
I hope the money fills the holes, can see the roof is caving inAnd they want you to doubt every trust that you've known
And they wanna find the holes in the armor exposed
And they come on whispering,
If you just do this for me...
And turn and show their teeth just before they're sinking in
And better than described and deeper the decent

I never thought we'd have to learn to doubt our friends
And better than described, so much deeper the decent
I never thought we'd have to learn to doubt our friendsLooky Black Betty, what they're tying to you
You did the very thing, baby, that I asked you not to do
Now you got yourself caught in the silk spiderweb
I hope the money fills the holes, can see the roof is caving inLooky Black Betty, what they're tying to you
You did the very thing, baby, that I asked you not to do
Now you got yourself caught in the silk spiderweb
I hope the money fills the holes in the place I used to stand

The Horrible Crowes is a New Brunswick, New Jersey rock band, composed of The Gaslight Anthem’s frontman Brian Fallon and longtime friend Ian Perkins, which conceptualized while Perkins joined Gaslight on a worldwide tour in 2010 and the duo started writing songs on buses, in hotel rooms and even a bathroom in Japan following the earthquake. The Behold The Hurricane Songfacts explains that the name comes from an old poem called the Twa Corbies, which means, 'two crows.' “Ian and I had a ritual where we’d go to the back on the bus at the end of a show and play each other records, I got him into Afghan Whigs and he got me into PJ Harvey and one day we just thought, ‘we should do something like this,” Fallon explains. In that spirit earlier this summer the duo holed up with producer Ted Hutt (Dropkick Murphys, Chuck Ragan) to capture these songs on tape-and the result is something that will likely surprise even the most strident Gaslight Anthem fans in the best way possible.

“As much as I have this fantasy in the Gaslight Anthem of being Bruce Springsteen, I also have this fantasy of being Tom Waits or Greg Dulli,” Fallon explains when asked about the catalyst for this project, which sees him playing keyboards and working with drum loops and string arrangements for the first time. “These songs are very dark; they’re like hymns for lonely people,” Fallon continues, “it’s really a trip through a breakdown and that dissent into madness and hopefully redemption.”
