Break Up Lyrics

I started drinking on the day before you left me
I'd already, already slept with all your friends
Seen stars flashing down, lighting up the sky
Broken up, seems like the story of a friend of mine.Nothing left for me down on this road
Nothing left to do except to fall
Nothing left to do, oh there's nothing left for me
Nothing left for me on this road.I've travelled every county in this country
From the splashing sea to the mountains in the south
I never got over the way that you once loved me
Broken up, it happens to us all.
Nothing left to do but count away the hours
Nothing much remains save what's been lost
Nothing ever left, there's nothing ever left
Nothing left for me down on this road.I didn't mean to hurt you
The way I did
Forgive me, baby
I never meant to sin.I set fire to all the books I've ever written
Never found the time, I never had any time to read them at all

Caught glimpses, smashing, falling, crashing
Broken down, it happens to us all.Nothing left to do but sell your pictures
Nothing left-only a few loose friends
Nothing left for me save this adventure
Nothing really matters in the end.
Nothing left to do but count away the hours
Nothing much remains save what's been lost
There's nothing left for me down on this road.
Nothing left for me down on this road.Yea, just take it away
Walk on down

After the post-punk band Swell Maps dissolved in the early '80s, lead singer Nikki Sudden began a diverse and maddening solo career, during which he performed with a number of different bands and side projects. Sudden released his first solo record, Waiting on Egypt, in 1982, followed closely by The Bible Belt in 1983; both records recalled Swell Maps. Mike Scott and Anthony Thistlewaite of The Waterboys both played on the album, Scott writing the track Road of Broken Dreams - later covered by Sudden in the Jacobites.
