Butterfly Lyrics

Once I had a butterfly,
Pretty as could be,
Brightly coloured, small and soft,
A perfect thing was she.
And when she lightly touched my hand,
Or brushed against my brow,
I stepped into another land,
But oh where is it now.
Butterfly, flying so free.
Butterfly, softly land on me.
I took her every place I went,
She’d flutter all around,
She came everywhere with me,
She’d smile, but make no sound.
She made laugh, she made me sing,
She made me cry at night,

And if I lost my way at all,
She would shine her light.
Butterfly, flying so free.
Butterfly, softly land on me.
No harm befell my butterfly,
As in my arms she lay,
So strong was I compared to her,
She made me feel that way.
No hurt was ever meant by me,
As I took her to my breast,
But she was small and delicate,
And I crushed her, like the rest.
Butterfly, flying so free.
Butterfly, softly land on me.
But butterflies don’t last too long,
A short time and they’re gone,
And when they leave their loveliness,
Lingers on and on.
And sometimes when I think of her,
I’ll maybe sing this song,
And all the memories I still have,
Will last a lifetime long.
Butterfly, flying so free.
Butterfly, softly land on me.
