Cabaret Lyrics

What good is sitting
Alone in your room?
Come hear the music play
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Come to the cabaretPut down the knitting
The book and the broom
Time for a holiday
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Come to the cabaretCome taste the wine
Come hear the band
Come blow your horn
Start celebrating
Right this way
Your table's waitingNo use permitting
Some prophet of doom
To wipe every smile away
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Come to the cabaretCome blow your horn

Come hear the band
Yeah, start celebrating
Right this way
Your table's waitingNow start by admitting
From cradle to tomb
It isn't that long a [Incomprehensible]
Oh, life is a cabaret, old chum
Only a cabaret, old chum
So come to the cabaret

Louis Armstrong (1901-1971) was a trumpet player, singer, and bandleader, and is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists in the history of jazz. Armstrong was born and brought up in New Orleans, a culturally diverse town with a unique musical mix of creole, ragtime, marching bands, and blues. Although from an early age he was able to play music professionally, he didn't travel far from New Orleans until 1922, when he went to Chicago to join his mentor, King Oliver.
