Can't Sink This Town Lyrics

Advisory - the following lyrics contain explicit language:
A barefoot whore
Walkin' by a famous clock
Against her door
Waitin' for the chimes to startCan't sink this town
Pull the gates and bring it down
I'd gladly drown
Than let you leave me lonelyShe pulled the cork
On a night like this she never works
I said, "No more"
Do I think I'm understood with her? Can't sink this town

Pull the gates and bring it down
I'd gladly drown
Than let you leave me lonelyI can't sink this town
Looking back across the sea
I'd gladly drown
I thought you said you were lonelyTell you what
Is a broken promise cheap enough
It's all I got
Look so sad, talk so toughCan't sink this town
Pull the gates and bring it down
I'd gladly drown
Than let you leave me lonelyI can't sink this town
Looking back across the sea
I'd gladly drown
I thought you said you were lonelyI thought you said you were lonely
I thought you said you were lonely

Freedy Johnston (born 1961) is a New York City-based singer-songwriter originally from Kinsley, Kansas. Johnston's first album, "The Trouble Tree" was released in 1990, and features the guitar playing of the roots musician and author, David Hamburger.
