Change Partners Lyrics

Must you dance every dance
With the same fortunate man?
You have danced with him
Since the music beganWon't you change partners
And dance with me?Must you dance quite so close
With your lips touching his face?
Can't you see
I'm longing to be in his place?Won't you change partners
And dance with me?Ask him to sit this one out
And while you're alone
I'll tell the waiter to tell him
He's wanted on the telephoneYou've been locked in his arms
Ever since heaven knows whenWon't you change partners
And then you may never want
To change partners againAsk him to sit this one out
And while you're alone
I'll tell the waiter to tell him
He's wanted on the telephoneYou've been locked in his arms

Ever since heaven knows whenWon't you change partners
And then you may never want
To change partners againChange partners again

Ella Jane Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 in Newport News, VA – June 15, 1996), also known as Lady Ella (the First Lady of Song), was one of the most influential jazz singers of the 20th Century, the winner of thirteen Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Art presented by President Ronald Reagan and the Presidential Medal of Freedom presented by President George H. W. Bush. Gifted with a three-octave vocal range, she was noted for her purity of tone, near faultless phrasing and intonation, and a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing.
