Cherry Bowl Drive-in Lyrics

Saw her at the Texaco just the other day
Even more beautiful, her hair had a touch of gray
We both stood and stared at each other, couldn't say a word
Then I said, "God, it's good to see you"
And she said, "Well, have you heard?"They're tearin' down the Cherry Bowl Drive-In tomorrow
Where I first kissed you and ran my fingers through your hair
She's goin' the way all things must go someday
But I will still remember you there, yes, I will
I will still remember you thereThen I said, "Little Melissa, she's lookin' more and more like you
Saw her down on Maple Street, she's even got your same smile too
And my Jake Jr. says, "Daddy, someday I'm gonna marry that girl"
Isn't that just perfect, it's such a crazy worldSo they're tearin' down the Cherry Bowl Drive-In tomorrow
Where I first kissed you and ran my fingers through your hair
She's goin' the way all things must go someday
But I will still remember you there, yes, I will, yes, I will
I will still remember you thereCan you get away tomorrow?
If you can't, I'll understand
It's just that when the big screen falls

I wanna be holdin' your hand
Holdin' your handWhen they're tearin' down the Cherry Bowl Drive-In tomorrow
Where I first kissed you and ran my fingers through your hair
She's goin' the way all things must go someday
But I will still remember you there, yes, I will, yes, I will
I will still remember there

According to an early press release by EMI "His maverick ways paid off in 1993 when EMI Records released his self-penned debut Painted Desert Serenade, a collection of introspective story songs including the break-through single "Jessie" and "When A Woman Cries," already covered by legends Joe Cocker and Smokey Robinson. "I was so used to being outside of whatever was going on that I didn't even think I'd get a record deal, much less have my songs played on the radio." This, from the young man who received the BMI Award for one of the most played songs of 1994.
