City On the Hill (With Background Vocals) Lyrics

Did you hear of the city on the hill
Said one old man to the other
It once shined bright, and it would be shining still
But they all started turning on each otherYou see the poets thought the dancers were shallow
And the soldiers thought the poets were weak
And the elders saw the young ones as foolish
And the rich man never heard the poor man speakBut one by one, they ran away
With their made up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade
In the City on the Hill, the City on the HillEach one thought that they knew better
But they were different by design
Instead of standing strong together
They let their differences divideAnd one by one, they ran away
With their made up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade
In the City on the Hill, the City on the HillAnd the world is searching stillBut it was the rhythm of the dancers
That gave the poets life
It was the spirit of the poets

That gave the soldiers strength to fight
It was fire of the young ones
It was the wisdom of the old
It was the story of the poor man
That needed to be toldIt is the rhythm of the dancers
That gives the poets life
It is the spirit of the poets
That gives the soldiers strength to fight
It is fire of the young ones
It is the wisdom of the old
It is the story of the poor man
That's needing to be toldBut one by one will we run away
With our made up minds to leave it all behind
As the light begins to fade in the City on the HillOne by one will we run away
With our made up minds to leave it all behind
As the light begins to fade in the City on the Hill
The city on the hill(Come home)
And the Father's calling still
(Come home)
To the city on the hill
(Come home)

Casting Crowns is a Christian band that employs a soft rock music style. The band was created by youth pastor Mark Hall who also serves as a lead vocalist. The band previously served and performed in a youth group in Atlanta.

Discovered by, among others, contemporary Christian music legend Steven Curtis Chapman, Casting Crowns got a recording contract and vaulted to popularity in 2003 with songs such as If We Are The Body and Who Am I. The Until The Whole World Hears Songfacts reports that Casting Crown's 2009 Until The Whole World Hears album recorded 167,000 sales in its first week, the largest selling debut week sales figures by a Christian artist in Nielsen Soundscan history.

Casting Crown's fifth album, The Well, was released on October 18, 2011. According to The Well Songfacts, as with previous records, it draws inspiration from the band's ministry efforts at its home church, Eagles Landing Baptist Church outside of Atlanta, where Mark Hall serves as youth pastor.

Before Casting Crowns was created they were known as New Life Rookies which split into two bands, one being Casting Crowns and the other a smaller band South Avenue.
