Comanche (The Brave Horse) Lyrics

The battle was over at Custer's Last Stand,
And trumpets were sounding for all the brave men.
While one lone survivor, wounded and weak,
Comanche, the brave horse, lay at the General's feet.
Chorus:
Comanche you fought hard, Comanche you tried,
You were a good soldier, so hang your head up high.
For even the greatest, sometime must fall,
Comanche, you warrior, you gave your all.
Although you were silent, your deeds speak out loud.
If your buddies could see you, I know they'd be proud.
The symbol of bravery, at the Little-Big-Horn,
Comanche you warrior, you're battle scarred and torn.
Chorus:

John Gale "Johnny" Horton (April 30, 1925 – November 5, 1960) was an American country music and rockabilly singer most famous for his semi-folk, so-called "saga songs" which began the "historical ballad" craze of the late 1950s and early 1960s. With them, he had several major successes, most notably in 1959 with the song "The Battle of New Orleans" (written by Jimmy Driftwood), which was awarded the 1960 Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording.
