American music group from Chicago. Their repertoire includes doo-wop, gospel, soul, and R&B. They formed in 1958 and soon added soul singers Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield to their line-up to become Jerry Butler & the Impressions. In 1962 Jerry Butler left and they took the name The Impressions.
