Cuckoo Madame Lyrics

Cuckoo Madame
With your teddy bear eye
Yellow fingers clinging
To the chain link fenceBombers above you
Bombers behind youDisapproval hounds you
Ugly rumour surrounds youSolitary Madam
We never understood
You never told us of your battle
With the cuckoo baby bluesCuckoo Madame
It's no wonder you're shy
You're Greta Garbo
You're the witch of SalemYou're anti-socialAnd you are too bloody lonely
For the likes of usWe never knew of your battle
With the cuckoo baby bluesWhen you saw that egg crack
It froze your blood
You knew you had to fly thenHad to say goodbye
Had to fly before you saw
Another mother

Feed your chickYou knew
It would break your heart
You knew
It would break your heart

Robert Wyatt, born Robert Ellidge, in Bristol on 28 January 1945, is an English musician, and a former member of the influential Canterbury scene band Soft Machine. As a teenager, he lived with his parents in a fourteen-room Georgian guest-house, Wellington House, in Lydden near Canterbury. Here he was taught the drums by visiting American jazz drummer George Niedorf. In 1962, Wyatt and Niedorf moved to Majorca where they stayed with the poet Robert Graves. The following year, Wyatt returned to England and joined the Daevid Allen Trio with Daevid Allen and Hugh Hopper.
