Delta Dawn Lyrics

She was forty-one and her daddy still called her Baby
Everyone in Brownsville thinks she's crazy
'Cause she walks to the station with a suitcase in her hand
And she's looking for a mysterious dark-haired manIn her younger days they called her Delta Dawn
Prettiest woman you ever laid eyes on
But a man of low degree stood by her side
And he promised he would take her for his brideDelta Dawn, what's that flower you have on?
Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?
Did I hear you say he was meeting you here today
To take you to his mansion in the sky?Delta Dawn, what's that flower you got on?
Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?
Did I hear you say he was meeting you here today
To take you to his mansion in the sky high?Delta Dawn, what's that flower you got on?
Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?
Did I hear you say he was meeting you right here today?
He's gonna take you to his mansion in the sky highDelta Dawn, what's that flower you got on?
Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?
Did I hear you say he was meeting you right here today?

He's gonna take you to his mansion in the sky high
To take you to his mansion in the skyHe's gonna take you, gonna take you
He's gonna take you to his mansion
He's gonna take you, gonna take you
He's gonna take you to his mansionHe's gonna take you, gonna take you
He's gonna take you to his mansion
He's gonna take you, gonna take you
He's gonna take you to his mansion
He's gonna take you his mansion in the skyHe's gonna take you, gonna take you
He's gonna take you, gonna take you
He's gonna take you, gonna take you

The Statler Brothers were an American country music vocal group founded in 1955 in Staunton, Virginia. Originally performing gospel music at local churches, the group billed themselves as The Four Star Quartet, and later The Kingsmen. In 1963, when the song "Louie, Louie" by the garage rock band also called The Kingsmen became famous, the group elected to bill themselves as The Statler Brothers. Despite the name, only two members of the group (Don and Harold Reid) are actual brothers and none have the surname of "Statler".
