Dixie Lyrics

If I ever get out of Dixie
I'm gonna buy me some brand new shoes
I'm gonna have somebody shine 'em up
Soon as I pay my duesIf I ever get out of Tennessee
Out 'neath this dust and dirt
I'm gonna live my life like a high and mighty
Gonna get what I deserveAnd when I cross that line, oh man
I'll sing a brand new song
Instead of sittin' here by the railroad tracks
Whistlin' Dixie all day longI'm so tired of paying, praying for my sins
Lord, get me out of Dixieland
In Jesus' name, AmenIt was the mines that killed my daddy
It was the law that killed my man
It was the Bible Belt that whipped me
When I broke the Fifth CommandNow I don't hate the weather
Now I don't hate the land
But if I had it my way
I'd never see this place againAnd when I cross that line, oh man

I'll sing a brand new song
Instead of sittin' here by the railroad tracks
Whistlin' Dixie all day longI'm so tired of paying, praying for my sins
Lord, get me out of Dixieland
In Jesus' name, Amenrepeat chorusWhen I tread out of these parts
Look me up on the other side
'Cause I'll be damned if I go down
In Dixie when I die
Yeah, I'll be damned if I go down
In Dixie when I die

Monroe was born on September 10, 1986 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Growing up, her parents played songs by the Eagles and Lynyrd Skynyrd, so her country rock roots started early, and she was already taking piano lesson before she turned seven. At age 11, she won a talent contest in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee (home of Dolly Parton's resort "Dollywood"), singing "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart." She subsequently found steady work performing in a theater in Pigeon Forge. A couple year later, her father gave Monroe her first guitar, and she began writing her own songs.
