Dollar Bill Blues Lyrics

If I had a dollar bill
Yes, I believe, I surely will
Go to town and drink my fill
Early in the morningLittle darling, she's a redhaired thing
Man, she makes my legs to sing
Gonna buy her a diamond ring
Early in the morningMother was a golden girl
I slit her throat just to get her pearls
Cast myself into a whirl
Before a bunch of swineIt's a long way down the Harlan Road
Busted back and a heavy load
Won't get through to save my soul
Early in the morningI've always been a gambling man
I've rolled them bones with either hand
Seven is the promised land
Early in the morningWhiskey'd be my dying bed
Tell me where to lay my head
Not with me is all she said

Early in the morningIf I had a dollar bill
Yes, I believe, I surely will
Go to town and drink my fill
Early in the morning

Townes Van Zandt (John Townes Van Zandt, born at Fort Worth, Texas, March 7, 1944 and died at Smyrna, Tennessee, January 1, 1997). He was a country and folk singer and poet. While alive, Van Zandt was labelled as a cult musician. Though he had a small and devoted fanbase, he never had a successful album or single, and even had difficulty keeping his recordings in print. Many of his songs, including "If I Needed You," "To Live Is To Fly," and "No Place to Fall" are considered standards of their genre. AllMusic has called him "one of the greatest country and folk artists of his generation."
