Don't Do It Lyrics

If I had a girl that loved me
Just as much as she loves you
I'd stay in her arms every doggone day
And never would be untrueYou can't win
(You can't win)
Don't do it, my friendWell, you told her lies and alibis
You tried to make her think you care
But when she wants the little bit of love you promised
She can't find it anywhereYou can't win
(You can't win)
Don't do it, my friendOne of these days you're gonna find yourself
All alone and, oh, so blue
Don't come to me for sympathy 'cause it'll be too late
There won't be a thing I can do for youWell, you'd better take her in your lovin' arms
And tell her that you're so ashamed
Don't try to be smart and break her heart
'Cause you're gonna play a loser's gameYou can't win
(You can't win)

Don't do it, my friendOne of these days you're gonna find yourself
All alone and, oh, so blue
Don't come to me for sympathy 'cause it'll be too late
There won't be a thing I can do for youWell, you'd better take her in your lovin' arms
And tell her that you're so ashamed
Don't try to be smart and break her heart
'Cause you're gonna play a loser's gameYou can't win
(You can't win)
Don't do it, my friendYou can't win
(You can't win)
Don't do it, my friendYou can't win
(You can't win)
Don't do it, my friend

Johnny Burnette was a rockabilly pioneer in Memphis, TN, USA - with his older brother Dorsey Burnette &, a friend, Paul Burlison - founded Johnny Burnette & The Rock 'N' Roll Trio. Burlison was an electrician and pioneered the electric guitar effect known as the "rumble" in evidence on Burnette's earlier first hit "Train kept a'Rollin" achieved by leaving a capacitor loose in its fittings. All three worked with Elvis Presley while he was a truck driver, and followed him in resuming their search for stardom. The Burnettes and Burlison were all keen boxers.
