Eve Stole the Apple Lyrics

Old folks told me you're not coming home
Old folks told me, gotta move along
Like a ripe ol' fruit on a borrowed vine
I hang around, oh Lord, I hang aroundEve stole the apple from the tree, good Lord
I know she could be me, I know she could be meBig brother told me I got something wrong
Big brother told me sing a different song
Like a tolling bell in its final hour
I'll make a sound, oh Lord, I'll make one soundAnother man done gone, he sang this song, good Lord
I know he could be me, I know he could be me'Round the mountain there's another shore
'Round the corner there's another door
Like a bleeding man on his native soil
I'll stand my ground, oh Lord, I'll stand my groundThey nailed him to the cross for no sin, good Lord
I know he could be me, I know he could be meThey nailed him to the cross
Another man done gone
Eve stole the apple from the tree, good Lord
I know she could be me, I know she could be me
I know she could be me

Abigail Washburn never set out to be a songwriter or a recording artist. Five years ago when she found herself on stage in a smoke-filled Beijing club playing her banjo and singing old-time Appalachian mountain music in Chinese to a packed house, she was as surprised as anyone. “A daring, definite talent, whose feel for the folk idiom results in moving material. Soulful is the word,” hailed the Wall Street Journal in 2005, during that same tour of China. “On stage, her voice resonated with the power of a seasoned performer and her poetic hill tunes sounded all the more evocative in Chinese.
