Evergreen Lyrics

Love, soft as an easy chair
Love, fresh as the morning air
One love that is shared by two
I have found with youLike a rose under the April snow
I was always certain, love would grow
Love ageless and evergreen
Seldom seen by twoYou and I will make each night a first
Everyday a beginning
Spirits rise and their dance is unrehearsed
They warm and excite us
'Cause we have the brightest loveTwo lights that shine as one
Morning glory and midnight sun
Time we've learned to sail above
Time won't change the meaning of one love
Ageless and ever, evergreen

The fourth of seven children, John Royce Mathis was born on September 30, 1935 in Gilmer, TX to Clem and Mildred Mathis. As a small boy, the family moved to Post Street in San Francisco. It was there that he learned an appreciation of music from his father who taught him his first song, “My Blue Heaven”. At age eight, his father purchased an old upright piano for $25. When he brought it home, it wouldn’t fit through the front door.
