Example Lyrics

Who's gonna set the example now
You man you need to take your vows
Oh how you can fly
Oh how you can soar
When your hands are bloodied by a war
So far removed from the plains
The waters are dirtied by a bigger man's sumWho's gonna set the example for him
Who sacrificed his only kin
What's in the word of wealth
When no one ever sees it
Was the work from his hands
Lost in the sands of pleasing
Who will set the example for him
When there is no higher standard
Applauding the higher, higher
Applauding the higher you getUp on top
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Yeah we're fooling ourselves

Father of a country falling apart
Up on top
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Mother of a baby crying for help
Don't coddle the baby
The baby needs to learn
Up on top
What a precious idea
When there is no higher standard
Who's gonna set the example for her
Left alone to care for her only daughter
Punished for her innocence and faith unyielding
Inherited the violence that her history's been grieving
Who's gonna pass food to her child
When she has no one to serve their hungerUp on top
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Father of a country falling apart
Up on top
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Yeah we're fooling ourselvesApplauding the higher, higher
Applauding the higher you getUp on top
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Father of a country falling apart
Up on top
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Yeah we're fooling ourselves
Mother of a baby crying for help
Don't coddle the baby
The baby needs to learn
Up on top
What a precious idea
When there is no higher standard
When there is no higher standard

Brooklyn’s TEEN came together when Teeny Lieberson, formerly of Here We Go Magic, left her post in the latter band in order to make music with her sisters Katherine and Lizzie and their longtime friends Jane Herships and former member Maia Ibar. Forgoing girl-group gimmickry and fervor, the band’s digital-only debut EP, Little Doods, fleshed out a sound of languid, lo-fi psyche pop redolent of Paisley Underground bands like Opal and Rain Parade. Since releasing the EP in April 2011, they have steadily honed their sound around New York and readied their first long-player, In Limbo.
