Farther from Me Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Wish I could say that I know you
‘Cause lord, I wanna understand
Need you to know there’s nothing I want more in this world as a man
There’s none greater than time
And I’m sure no one knows better than you
Sometimes I wonder if you realize who you’re talking to
Ah but you won’t break my heart again, no
Broke it once, I was too young
And it didn’t mend
[Chorus]
I’ve suffered for your foolish heart and your desperate needs
And now after all this time
You’re still slipping farther from me
[Verse 2]
So many nights, so all alone

Coast to coast haunted by the ghosts of a child’s hopes
So if you have any heart
If you’ve any heart at all now
Then you’ll just sit right back down and listen to me talk
I’ve tried and I’ve tried to forget but
I just know I’ll never be that young again
I’ve suffered for your foolish heart and your desperate needs
Now after all this time
You’re still slipping farther from me
It’s cold out there, isn’t it?
Still say you have no regrets but
Cold ain’t the half of it
Just wait for the night and the loneliness
[Chorus]
[Chorus (alternate)]
I’ve suffered for your foolish heart and your desperate needs
Now after all these years
You’re still slipping farther from me
