For What It's Worth Lyrics

Something happenin' here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to bewareIt's time we stop, children
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going downBattle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behindIt's time we stop, children
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going downWhat a field day for the heat
Thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly sayin', hooray for our sideIt's time we stop, children
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going downParanoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
Starts when you're always afraid

Step out of line
The man come and takes you awayIt's time we stop, children
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going downStop, children
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going downStop, children
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

The Staple Singers were an American gospel, soul, and R&B singing group from Chicago who signed their first professional contract in 1952. Roebuck "Pops" Staples (1914–2000), the patriarch of the family, formed the group with his children Cleotha (1934–2013), Pervis (b. 1935), Yvonne (b. 1936), and Mavis (b. 1939). They are best-remembered for their 1970s hits "Respect Yourself", "I'll Take You There", "If You're Ready (Come Go With Me)", and "Let's Do It Again". In 1999 the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
