Forest Green Lyrics

Forest green is the color
of this new April morning
and I’d swear it was summer
today
As I sit in the shadow
of a tree on a hillside
I’m deep in the hollow
of a love that just died
She became not much kinder than a stranger
And in my heart I knew
She’d soon be gone
She said that married life would chain her
But in my heart I knew it all along
Found what I could believe in
In the river of all her smiles

And love was in season to try
Like fallen leaves on a sidewalk
Like tears for a winter rain
I know I’m needin’ a long talk
to find the way to me again
She became not much kinder than a stranger
And in my heart I knew
She’d soon be gone
She said that married life would chain her
But in my heart I knew it all along
