Friend of the Devil Lyrics

I lit it out from Reno
I was trailed by twenty hounds
Didn't get to sleep last night
'Til the morning came aroundSet out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight
I just might get some sleep tonightWell, I ran into the devil
And he loaned me twenty bills
I spent the night in Utah
In a cave up in the hillsI set out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight
Just might get some sleep tonightBut I ran down to the levee
But the devil caught me there
And he took my twenty dollars
And he slicked back all my hairI set out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight

Just might get some sleep tonightI've got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night
The first one's named sweet Anne Marie and she's my heart's delight
The second one is prison, babe, the sheriff's on my trail
And if he catches up with me, I'll spend my life in jailWell, I got a wife in Chino, baby
One in Cherokee
One that says she's got my child
She don't look like meSet out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight
I just might get some sleep tonightI set out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight
I just might get some sleep tonight
