Fun While It Lasted Lyrics

I met her one evenin' in a bar room downtown
She was the picture of truth
Her shoulders were sagged and her head was bowed down
Like me she was livin' the bluesWhen the music had ended and the crowd dwindled down
And we were the last lonely two
We left with each other when nothin' was left
And nothin' left better to doAnd it was fun while it lasted but it didn't last long
Before we knew it the thrill was all gone
And we both wound up singin' the same lonesome song
It was fun while it lasted, but it didn't last longI had a woman and she had a man
Before we both lost it all
When I thought of her that's when she thought of him
And I never could stand that thought

Billy Joe Shaver is an American country music singer/songwriter. He was born August 16, 1939 in Corsicana, Texas. Shaver's 1973 album Old Five and Dimers Like Me is a classic in the outlaw country genre. Shaver was raised by his mother, Victory Watson Shaver, after his father Virgil left the family before he was born. Until he was 12, he spent a great deal of time with his grandmother in Waco, Texas so that his mother could work. He sometimes accompanied his mother to her job at a local nightclub, where he began to be exposed to country music.[1]
