Get Out of Denver Lyrics

[Version 1]I still remember it was autumn and the moon was shinin'
My '60 Cadillac was roarin' through Nebraska, whinin'
Doin' a hundred-twenty man the fields was spinnin' over
Headed out for the mountain snow, and we was trailin' further
All the pipes were blazin and the screamin wheels turnin, turnin
Had my girl beside me brother, brother she was burnin, burninOn board the Baptist preacher, southern funky school teacher
She had a line on somethin heavy but we couldn't reach her
We told her that we needed something that would get us going
She pulled out all she had and layed it on the counter showin
All I had to do was lay my money down and pick it up
Cops came bustin' in and man, we lit out in a pickup truck(Cho.)
Go, get out of Denver, baby. Go, go, get out of Denver, baby.
Go, get out of Denver, baby. Go, go.
'Cause you look just like a commie and you might just be a member, baby.
Get out of Denver.
Well, red lights were flashin' and the sirens they were screamin'.
We had to pinch each other just to see if we was dreamin'.
Made it to London Pass in under less than half an hour.

Motor started drizzlin' and it turned into a thunder shower
(Break)
The rain kept drivin' but the caddy kept on burnin' rubber.
We kept on drivin' 'til we ran into some fog cover.
We couldn't see a thing, somehow we just kept on goin'.
We kept on drivin' all night long and dead into the mornin'.
Forty-five and fifty when we looked to see where we were at,
We're starrin' at a Colorado state policeman trooper captain.
He said...
(Cho.)[Version 2]I still remember it was Autumn and the moon was shining
My '60 Cadillac was rolling through Nebraska whining
Doing a hundred-twenty, man, that fuse was bending over
Heading out for the mountains knowing he was trailing, brother
All the fires were blazing and the spinning wheels were turnin, turnin
Had my girl beside me, brother, brother she was burning, burningA funked up baptist preaching southern funky school teacher
She had a line on something heavy but we couldn't reach her
We told her that we needed something that would get us going
She pulled out she had and laid it on the counter showing
All I had to do was lay my money down and pick it up
The Cops came busting in and man we lit out in a pick-up truck
And, go!Get out of Denver, baby. Go, go.
Get out of Denver, baby Go-ah-ho-oh
Get out of Denver, baby. Go, go.
Get out of Denver 'cause you look just like a commie and you might just be a member, baby, get out of DenverWell, red lights were flashin' and the sirens were a screamin', screamin'
We had to pinch each other just to see if we was dreamin'
Made it into Lovey Pass in under less than half an hour
Lord, it started drizzling and it turned into a thunder shower, yeah.(Guitar solo)The rain was driving but the Caddy kept on burning rubber
We kept on driving 'till we ran into some fog cover
We couldn't see a thing but somehow we just kept on going
We kept on driving all night long and then into the morning
Fog had finally lifted when we looked to see where we was at
We were staring at a Colarodo state policeman trooper captain
Go!Get out of Denver, baby. Go, go.
Get out of Denver, baby Go-ah-ho-oh
Get out of Denver, baby. Go, go.
Get out of Denver 'cause you look just like a commie and you might just be a member, baby,
Get out of Denver, baby, get out of Denver, baby, go, go!Get out of Denver, baby. Go, go.
Get out of Denver, baby Go-ah-oh-oh
Get out of Denver, baby. Go, go.
Get out of Denver 'cause you look just like a commie and you might just be a member, baby, get out of Denver, baby
Go!

Robert Clark "Bob" Seger (born May 6, 1945) is an American rock musician who achieved his greatest success in the 1970s and 1980s and continues to record and perform today.

Seger started his musical career in the 1960s in his native Ann Arbor, Michigan, soon after playing in and around Detroit as a singer and as the leader of Bob Seger and the Last Heard, and then later the Bob Seger System.

Best known for his work as Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, a group he formed in 1974. Seger was known as a workhorse midwestern roots-rocker who dealt with blue-collar themes and toured constantly in support of his frequent album releases, spanning five decades.

In April 1976, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band had an even bigger commercial breakthrough with the album Live Bullet, recorded over two nights in Detroit's Cobo Hall in September 1975. The album stayed on the Billboard charts for 168 weeks, peaking at #34, easily Seger's highest charting album to that time. It also contained Seger's hit rendition of Tina Turner's "Nutbush City Limits" (#69 US) as well as Seger's own classic take on life on the road, "Turn the Page", from Back in '72. It also harkened back to his late 1960's successes with both "Heavy Music" and "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" making appearances.

Critic Dave Marsh later wrote that "Live Bullet is one of the best live albums ever made ... In spots, particularly during the medley of 'Travelin' Man'/'Beautiful Loser', Seger sounds like a man with one last shot at the top." An instant best-seller in Detroit, Live Bullet quickly began to get attention in other parts of the country -- although perhaps not as quickly as Seger would have liked. In June 1976 he was a featured performer at the Pontiac Silverdome outside Detroit in front of nearly 80,000 fans. Yet three nights before in Chicago, Seger had played before 50 people in a bar.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 2004; close friend and fellow Michigander Kid Rock gave the induction speech during which he called Seger, "The Hardest Working Man in rock n roll", and Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm proclaimed that date Bob Seger Day in his honor.

With the single exception of Smokin' O.P.'s, re-released on compact disc by Capitol in 2005, all of Seger's albums prior to Beautiful Loser (the pre-Silver Bullet Band releases) have long remained out of print and command extremely high prices if offered for sale.
