Girls In Disgrace Lyrics

So faithfully you promised me we'd marry in the spring
A year has passed and now at last I see through everything
Just like a fool I let you rule this heart inside of me
Now you don't care how many years I'll spend in misery
Girls in disgrace must surely face the gossips of the town
And everytime she's passing by they greet her with a frown
You constantly reveal to me that you could never be
The kind of man to understand girls in disgrace like me
[ guitar ]
So patiently I try to see and understand your game
I'd even wait night after night you seldom ever came
I know you'll say I'm all to blame I know you just can't see
How I could think so much of you and never think of me
Girls in disgrace must surely face...

Jean Shepard (born November 21, 1933 in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma as Ollie Imogene Shepard)was one of the first female vocalists in the country music field to become a major star in the early 1950's. Shepard's family moved west to Visalia, California in hopes of a better life. In high school, Shepard formed the Melody Ranch Girls, which became locally famous. One night, Country star Hank Thompson saw Shepard performing at a show and liked what he heard. With Thompson's help, Shepard was able to get a recording contract with Capitol Records in 1952.
