He Said If I Be Lifted Up Lyrics

Down in the valley while on my knees
I asked my Jesus, carry me please
He promised that hed take care of me
If I would lift him upHe said if I (he said if I)
Be lifted up (be lifted up)
He said if I (he said if I)
Be lifted up (be lifted up)
Ill be your father, Ill be your mother
Ill be your sister, and your brotherHe said if I (he said if I)
Be lifted up (be lifted up)
Ill bring joy, oh joy, to your soulWhen I am lonely, when I am sad
My Jesus comes and makes me glad
He is the dearest friend I have had
I want to lift him upHe said if I (he said if I)
Be lifted up (be lifted up)
He said if I (he said if I)
Be lifted up (be lifted up)
Ill be your father, Ill be your mother

Ill be your sister, and your brotherHe said if I (he said if I)
Be lifted up (be lifted up)
Ill bring joy, oh joy, to your soul

The Stanley Brothers (Carter Stanley, 1925-1966, and Ralph Stanley, born 1927) were an American bluegrass duo originally hailing from Dickenson County, Virginia. The family soon moved to McClure, Virginia, where their parents worked a small farm in the Clinch Mountains. Music was a part of their lives from the word go, as they were able to listen to the likes of The Monroe Brothers, Mainer's Mountaineers, and other artists featured on the Grand Ole Opry radio program.
