Hello Central (Give Me 209) Lyrics

Hello Central, please give me 209
Hello Central, will you please give me 209
Yes you know I want to talk to my baby
Oh lord and she's way down the line
Seem like the buses done stop runnin'
And the trains don't like me to ride no more
Seem like the buses done stop runnin'
Trains don't like me to ride no more
Ticket agent see how my ticket played out
He'll see that I don't ride for sure
I turned around from the telephone
Went walking straight back home
Oooh, turned around from the telephone
I went walking straight back home
I was praying in my heart asking Jesus
Oh lord now, what have I done?

Sam Hopkins was born on March 15, 1912 in Centerville, Texas. In 1920, at the age of eight, Hopkins met and played with the legendary Blind Lemon Jefferson, even becoming Jefferson's guide for a short time. Hopkins' cousin, the great bluesman, Texas Alexander, was another influence. Their musical partnership was broken up by Hopkins' time in Houston's County Prison Farm during the 1930s. When Hopkins made his way to Houston's Third Ward in 1946 he was introduced to Lola Anne Cullum, a talent scout who had pieced together deals with companies such as Aladdin Records out of Los Angeles.
