Home of Once Brave Lyrics

Out of the water
Cold, black Nordic sea
Risen towards the eternal sky
The land lays open and freeUp high the Mountains
Where the wind (catch its speed and chill)
Snowstorms are born
And rage loud through the valleys and the hillsAbove
Two Ravens, messengers
Of the wise one-eyed God
Who rules
This land
Of the strong and the greatAnd tall
Beautiful
Behold this thy land
Open and free
This thy home of the braveDark endless forest
Where at the day hides the shadows of the night
Snowcovered vast lands

As great as the eternal skyNow in the midst
Of this wild and it's open and free
He placed my kind
To possess this their land to beAbove
Two Ravens, messengers
Of the wise one-eyed God
Who rules this land
Of once strong and once greatBut now
Forgetting
To behold this thy land
Once ours
Once free
This thy home of once brave

Bathory was a Swedish extreme metal band formed in Vällingby in 1983 and named after the infamous Hungarian countess, Elizabeth Báthory. The band's frontman and main songwriter was Quorthon (Thomas Forsberg). Bathory's first four albums were "the blueprint for Scandinavian black metal". The band departed from this style on their fifth album, Hammerheart (1990), which is often cited as the first Viking metal album. Bathory continued in the Viking metal style throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, although the band returned to thrash metal with the albums Requiem (1994) and Octagon (1995).
