I Don't Want To Miss Mississippi Lyrics

I don't want to miss Mississippi anymore
I don't want to miss Mississippi by the shore
I wanna go there, I wanna go where
life was heavenly before
I don't wanna dream
about the river I adore
I don't wanna dream
dreams don't help me anymore
I've got a shack there
I'm going back there
Where the 'sippi meets the shore
Say, I'm homesick, got the blues
Call it anything you choose
But this yearning 'bout returning
is something I can't lose

I don't want to miss Mississippi anymore
I don't want to miss
all the folks I'm longing for
I'm tired of roamin', I long for homin'
Mississippi by the shore

Weldon Leo "Jack" Teagarden (August 20, 1905 – January 15, 1964), known as "Big T" and "The Swingin' Gate", was a jazz trombonist, bandleader, composer, and vocalist, regarded as the "Father of Jazz Trombone". Born in Vernon, Texas, his brothers Charlie and Clois "Cub" and his sister Norma also became noted professional musicians. Teagarden's father was an amateur brass band trumpeter and started young Jack on baritone horn; by age seven he had switched to trombone. He first heard jazz music played by the Louisiana Five and decided to play in the new style.
