I Meant What I Said Lyrics

I Meant What I Said
All Words Music by A.J. Croce,
(c) 1995 Croce Publishing adm.
by Lefrak-Moelis Music, (ASCAP)
The person whose face remains nameless
Her innocence saved by the bell
The effects of what could have been shameless
If only the both of us fell
(Chorus)
But I meant what I said when I said that
I was falling in love
So how was the affair derailed
There seemed no destination
Our romance had failed
But there had to be someone to blame
'Cause there always is and it's never the same
(Bridge)
Throw fuel on the fire and let it burn

With ashes to ashes we'll fill the urn
We'll fall in love when it's our turn
But I meant what I said when I said
That I was falling love

Shortly before his father's death in a 1973 plane crash, Croce's family moved west to San Diego, California, where his mother, Ingrid, raised him. It was during this difficult time in Croce's life that he began to play the piano.
