I Sleep On My Heart Lyrics

The time has come for dreaming
Don't feel tired but I feel a need to sleep
'Cause my life takes on new meaning
When I close my eyes and you reveal yourself to meThat's our time, time for changes
A time for reason
Something only you can seeAll my life, I have waited
For a chance to give a love
Only you demand of meFame and success are poor relations
The more I get, the less I need it
Happiness is an unknown sensation
My heart has a hunger and only you can feed itCome on in my dreams tonight
Show me where to start
Come on, I need you to shed some light
I want to sleep on my heartIn the past for protection
When someone got too close
Yet another bridge would burnBut I can find no connection
Between the love that you propose
And the lessons I have learnedI want to hear your explanations

You'll never know how much I need it
I want my tears to pay your reflexion
'Cause my heart has a hunger and only you can feed itCome on in my dreams tonight
Show me where to start
Come on, I need you to shed some light
I'm gonna sleep on my heartI'm sitting here, surrounded my possessions
Objects that confront me night and day
The fruits of my material obsession
But it seems the more I earn, the more I have to payCome on
Come on
Come on
Come onYou've made it clear that blind ambition
Leads nowhere and I don't need it
I've lost all my fear, all my inhibitions
My heart has a hunger but I know you can feed itCome on in my dreams tonight
Show me where to start
Come on, I need you to shed some light
I wanna sleep on my heartCome on in my dreams tonight
Show me where to start
Come on, I need you to shed some light
I'm gonna sleep on my heartCome on in my dreams tonight
Show me where to start
Come on, I need you to shed some light
I wanna sleep on my heart

Internationally popular British funk-rock quartet fronted by Mark King and Mike Lindup, best known for their hits Lessons In Love, Something About You, The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up), Love Games and Hot Water. They were formed on the Isle of Wight.

Though their membership has fluctuated throughout the years, the original and perhaps best-known lineup consisted of Mark King aka "Thunderthumbs" (vocals & bass), Mike Lindup (vocals & keyboards) and brothers Boon Gould (guitar) and Phil Gould (drums). After the success of the Running in the Family album, the Gould brothers left the band, citing musical differences and nervous exhaustion. King and Lindup continued, picking up replacement artists in Gary Husband on drums and former Go West and Kate Bush guitarist Alan Murphy. Murphy sadly passed away after suffering from an AIDS related illness in October 1989. The band released their then swansong album, Forever Now, in 1994.

At the end of the 80s, Mark King was recognized as one of the best bass players in the world having pioneered the 'slap and pull' technique, treating the bass as a percussion instrument. His style and virtuosity still are hugely influential, considering he also sang while he played very difficult basslines.

Following the formal breakup of the band in the mid-90s King later performed with a new lineup under the Level 42 moniker, before he and Lindup reunited to record Retroglide in 2006.

As of 2012, King and Lindup are still touring with personnel of Pete Ray Biggin, Sean Freeman and Nathan King completing the current lineup.
