I Thought It Was You Lyrics

I called your name out loud to a stranger yesterday
When she turned around, I said, "I'm sorry" and just walked away
From a distance she had that look
And for a second or twoI thought it was you, it took a moment to catch my breath
Tried to brace myself, still don't have a clue
How to leave your memory behind after all this time
I hear there's one special love in each life
Well, I must look like a fool, I thought it was youI still drive by your house takin' trips down memory lane
We had our future worked out
At least we did on that old porch swing
Today in my rear view mirror I saw an old MalibuAnd girl, I thought it was you, it took a moment to catch my breath
Tried to brace myself, still don't have a clue
How to leave your memory behind after all this time
I hear there's one special love in each life
Well, I must look like a fool, I thought it was youAm I really a fool? I thought it was you
I thought it was you, why couldn't it be you?

Herbert Jeffrey Hancock (born April 12, 1940) is a jazz pianist and composer from Chicago, Illinois, United States. Hancock is one of jazz music's most important and influential pianists and composers. He embraced elements of rock, funk, and soul while adopting freer stylistic elements from jazz. As part of Miles Davis' "second great quintet" Hancock helped redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section, and was later one of the first jazz musicians to embrace synthesizers and jazz funk.
