I Want the World to Stop Lyrics

I want the world to stop (I want the world to stop)
Give me the morning (Give me the understanding)
I want the world to stop (I want the world to stop)
Give me the morning, give me the afternoon
The night, the nightLet me step out of my shell
That's wrapped in sheets of milky winter disorder
Let me feel the air again, the talk of friends
The mind of someone my equalI want the world to stop (I want the world to stop)
Give me the morning (Give me the understanding)
I want the world to stop (I want the world to stop)
Give me the morning, give me the afternoon
The night, the nightTinseltown has followed me from Tinseltown to
Grey adorable city by the docks
Girls will walk in moving air
The sun hangs low, the girls don't care
As they paint themselves at duskI want the world to stop (I want the world to stop)
Give me the morning, give me the afternoon
The night, the nightTowns' and cities' populations up and grow

The workers move to the suburbs
In between I watch and go
I run alongside rush hour traffic
A prayer for every carI want the world to stop (I want the world to stop)
Give me the morning (Give me the understanding)
I want the world to stop (I want the world to stop)
Give me the morning, give me the afternoonI want the world to stop (I want the world to stop)
Give me the morning (Give me the understanding)
I want the world to stop (I want the world to stop)
Give me the morning, give me the afternoon
The night, the nightI want to write a message to you
Every day at ten o'clock in the evening
Yellow pearl my city is
This is your art
This is your Balzac, your Brookside, and your Bach

Belle and Sebastian is a band from Glasgow. Led by guitarist/vocalist Stuart Murdoch, the seven-piece band has an intimate, majestic sound that is equal parts folk-rock and '60s pop. Murdoch has a gift not only for whimsy and surrealism, but also for odd, unsettling lyrical detail which keeps the songs grounded in a tangible reality. Based in Glasgow, Scotland, Belle and Sebastian released their first two albums in 1996: Tigermilk, recorded over three days, and If You're Feeling Sinister, recorded in a week, at the peak of the chamber pop movement.
